Seal coating compositions and methods of applying them to metallic surfaces, particularly aluminum or alloys thereof, bearing a previously formed protective coating, particularly a conversion coating, such as a chromate or phosphate coating or a chrome-free metal oxide conversion coating, or a coating formed by anodization, provide improved corrosion resistance beyond that provided by the previously formed protective coating. The seal coating compositions preferably contain at least one of benzotriazole, nickel and or cobalt cations and borates, or aminated polymers of vinyl styrene.

L'invention se rapporte à des compositions de revêtement étanche et à des procédés permettant d'appliquer ces compositions sur des surfaces métalliques, notamment sur de l'aluminium ou des alliages de celui-ci, ces surfaces étant déjà pourvues d'un revêtement protecteur, notamment un revêtement de conversion tel qu'un revêtement de chromate ou de phosphate ou un revêtement de conversion d'oxyde métallique sans chrome, ou bien un revêtement obtenu par anodisation. Ces revêtements présentent une meilleure résistance à la corrosion que celle du revêtement protecteur formé préalablement. Les compositions de revêtement étanche contiennent de préférence au moins un benzotriazole, des cations de nickel et/ou de cobalt et des borates, ou des polymères aminés de styrène vinylique.
