The method is for securely expanding a storage capacity of an IC portable device's memory. For a given data object stored or to be stored in the memory of the IC portable device, a unique master certificate, used as a descriptor of the data object, is generated randomly. The master certificate is indexed in the memory of the portable device. A secondary certificate is derived from and is determinable only using the master certificate. The data object is stored with the secondary certificate on a data storage medium external to the portable device. The memory of the smart card is thus freed from the data object and only the IC portable device has key information to retrieve the data object stored on the data storage medium.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'étendre de manière sécurisée la capacité de stockage de la mémoire d'un dispositifortatif à circuit intégré. Pour un objet de données particulier, stocké ou à stocker dans la mémoire dudit dispositif, un seul certificat maître, utilisé comme descripteur dudit l'objet, est généré de façon aléatoire. Ledit certificat est indexé dans la mémoire dudit dispositif. Un certificat secondaire est dérivé du certificat maître et ne peut être déterminé qu'à l'aide du certificat maître. L'objet de données est stocké, avec le certificat secondaire, sur un support de stockage de données extérieur au dispositif portatif. La mémoire de la carte à puce se trouve ainsi libérée de l'objet de données et seul le dispositif portatif à circuit intégré possède l'information clé qui permet de retrouver l'objet de données stocké sur le support de stockage de données.
