- 37 - ABSTRACT The secure transport construction for banking depository devices of the invention transports envelopes of varying thickness including those containing coins between its entry and exit ends. The transport construction includes a fixed upper platen (18); an endless belt (27) whose lower flight is movable below and supported by the fixed upper platen; and a lower platen (41) movably mounted such that it is capable of displacement in a direction downward from the belt and away from the upper platen, all of which are mounted in a frame. Envelopes are pinched between the lower belt flight and a narrow longitudinal central ribbed plastic rail (56) projecting upward from the lower platen and conveyed along the belt flight. Recesses C located between the upper and lower platens laterally of the lower belt flight and ribbed rail serve to minimize contact between conveyed envelopes and the platens thus reducing frictional resistance to envelope movement.
