Abstract of the Disclosure An expanding device adpated to be secured in a cavity, for instance in a cylindric pipe as an anchor. A set of clamping jaws with suitably roughened surface, to engage the cylindric wall by the wedging action of an axially displaceable cone is operatively associated with a strong compression spring urging the cone to expand the jaws. In order to maintain the cone and a position in which the jaws are relaxed and do not engage the interior of the tube, a soluable or otherwise environ- mentally disintegrated spacer is used. When the spacer is in place, the device is inserted into a tube or the like. The spacer is then exposed to an environment (for instance water , humidity or like) to eventually disintegrate or dissolve thus allowing displacement of the cone to expand the jaws into engagement with the cavity. The spacer can be made of a variety of materials, for instance of saltstone dissolved by water and humidity after a period of time.
