A security device for securing a closure assembly, including a closure element hinged at a first edge to a surrounding frame element. The security device comprises an elongated bar member and an actuating member. The elongated bar member has an anchoring means at a first end thereof, and the anchoring means is adapted to be anchored to one of the closure element and the frame element. The actuating member, slidably engaged with the bar member, has an actuating means providing infinitely variable incremental linear movement of the actuating member on the bar member towards the first end thereof. The actuating member is adapted to engage the other of the closure element and the frame element, when the actuating member is advanced sufficiently on the bar member towards the first end thereof: The actuating member forces the closure element and the frame element into fixed contiguous abutment, such that the closure is prevented from being opened when the security device is secured to the closure assembly.
