The invention relates to a security element for security papers, documents of value and the like having a front side (16) and a rear side (18), a security feature (14) which is applied on the rear side (18) and a recess printed motif (12, 20) which is subsequently applied on the front side. According to the invention, the recessed printed motif comprises at least one embossed elevation (20E) which lies opposite the security feature (14) and protects at least one part region of the security feature (14) during the recess printing step.
