ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is disclosed a security type hinge construction comprised of a pair of hinge leaves each having at least one adjacent knuckle and adapted for attachment to a door or door frame, or the like for accommodating pivo- tal movement therebetween. An electrical circuit component such as a switch is carried by one of the knuckles in a fixed orientation and operating means for the component is carried by the other of the knuckles, such that the re- lative pivotal movement of the hinge leaves can be employed to actuate or operate the component. As such, the component can be wired in circuit to provide an indication of a change in the relative orientation of the hinge leaves, which correspondingly indicates a change in the position of the associated door with respect to its door frame. The electrical circuit com- ponent or switch is further sealed within its associated knuckle, so as to substantially preclude intrusion of moisture or the like, without regard for the orientation or mounting position of the hinge construction, which moisture if entering the hinge bore could result in short circuiting of the circuit component, thus negating the monitoring effect of the assembly.
