Description

Abstract of the Disclosure A seal of the padlock type comprises a plastic seal body with a pair of apertures for receiving reversely bent end portions of the legs of wire shackle and a recess in the surface of the seal body associated with the aperture. The extreme ends of the reversely bent end portions dig into the aperture walls to prevent retraction of the shackle when moderate force is applied thereto and to pierce the body and become visible in the recess at the exterior of the seal when greater force is applied. To ensure the foregoing, the reversely bent portions are kept flexed within the apertures to cause the extreme ends to bear constantly against the aperture walls. To prevent a tool slid into the aperture along- side the shackle from squeezing the reversely bent portion to a sharper bend and thereby allowing its retraction from the aperture, the shackle is provided with a U-shaped bent portion which enters and blocks the aperture and covers the reversely bent portion. To prevent flattening of the U-shaped bent portion, one of its segments is perpendicular to the shackle.
