A universal receiver includes a database of communication protocols which allow the receiver to configure itself for communication with the different panels. The receiver obtains certain information from the alarm panel which is initiating the communication. In the simplest form this is the DID number used by the alarm panel. The receiver uses this information to retrieve the appropriate protocol parameters stored in the database. The receiver can also add further identification codes to the address of the alarm panel for storage in a combined database serving many alarm panels. This allows convenient recording of communications received by the Security Station which serves different alarm panel systems some of which may have the same address code.

L'invention est un récepteur universel doté d'une base de données de protocoles de communication qui lui permettent de se configurer pour communiquer avec les différents panneaux. Ce récepteur reçoit une certaine information du panneau d'alerte qui amorce la communication. Dans le cas le plus simple, cette information est constituée par le numéro de sélection directe à l'arrivée utilisé par le panneau d'alerte. Le récepteur utilise cette information pour extraire les paramètres de protocole appropriés stockés dans la base de données. Il peut également ajouter d'autres codes d'identification à l'adresse du panneau d'alerte pour les stocker dans une base de données combinées desservant plusieurs panneaux d'alerte. Ceci permet d'enregistrer facilement les communications reçues par la station de sécurité qui dessert des panneaux d'alerte différents dont certains peuvent avoir le même code d'adresse.
