The invention relates to methods to select animals, such as mammals, in particularly domestic animals such as breeding animals or animals destined for slaughter for having desired genotypic or potential phenotypic properties, in particular related to muscle mass and/or fat deposition or, in the case of mammals, to teat number. The invention provides a method for selecting an animal for having desired genotypic or potential phenotypic properties comprising testing said animal, a parent of said animal or its progeny for the presence of a nucleic acid modification affecting the activity of an evolutionary conserved CpG island, located in intron 3 of an IGF2 gene and/or for the presence of a nucleic acid modification affecting binding of a nuclear factor to an IGF2 gene.
L'invention concerne des procédés permettant de sélectionner des animaux, de type mammifères, en particuliers des animaux reproducteurs ou des animaux destinés à l'abattage pour des propriétés génotypiques ou phénotypiques potentielles désirées, en particulier associées à la masse musculaire et/ou au dépôt de graisse ou, pour des mammifères, au nombre de tétines. L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de sélectionner un animal pour des propriétés génotypiques ou phénotypiques potentielles désirées qui consiste: à soumettre à un test ledit animal, un parent dudit animal ou sa progéniture pour détecter la présence d'une modification d'acide nucléique affectant l'activité d'un îlot CpG conservé au cours de l'évolution, situé dans l'intron 3 d'un gène IGF2 et/ou la présence d'une modification d'acide nucléique affectant la liaison d'un facteur nucléaire à un gène IGF2.
