The present invention provides a method for selecting hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) comprising providing an agent which binds to .alpha.9.beta.l integrin on the cell surface to a population of cells including HSCs and separating HSCs by virtue of the binding agent. The invention also provides a method of culturing a population of HSCs in the presence of an agent which binds to .alpha.9.beta.l, wherein the agent inhibits differentiation of the HSCs. The invention also provides a method of producing a population of lineage committed cells comprising culturing HSCs in the presence of an agent which inhibits or prevents binding to .alpha.9.beta.l .
La présente invention concerne un procédé pour sélectionner des cellules souches hématopoïétiques (CFU-S) consistant à procurer un agent, qui se lie à l'intégrine .alpha.9.beta.l sur la surface de la cellule, à une population de cellules comprenant des CFU-S et de séparer des CFU-S au moyen de l'action de l'agent liant . L'invention concerne aussi un procédé de culture d'une population de CFU-S en présence d'un agent qui se lie à .alpha.9.beta.l, dans lequel l'agent inhibe la différenciation des CFU-S. L'invention concerne aussi un procédé de production d'une population de cellules déterminées pour une lignée comprenant la culture des CFU-S en présence d'un agent qui inhibe ou empêche la liaison à .alpha.9.beta.l.
