The color and color stability of a color unstable hydrocarbon fraction is improved by contacting the hydrocarbon fraction with a selective hydrogenation catalyst in the presence of hydrogen, at reaction conditions, substantially all of which is dissolved in the hydrocarbon fraction, selected to result in the selective hydrogenation of conjugated unsaturates, thereby improving the color and color stability of the hydrocarbon fraction.
