It has been discovered that para-xylene (PX) can be synthetized with improved selectivity by reacting an aromatic compound such as toluene and/or benzene with a reactant(s) from fuel syngas such as a combination of hydrogen and carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide and/or methanol or methylating agents produced therefrom. The combination of the selective methylation technology and a source of fuel syngas creates several advantages including simplification of the selective methylation process and utilization of low cost feeds. The fuel syngas is used on a once-through basis.

On a découvert que le para-xylène (PX) peut être synthétisé grâce à une meilleure sélectivité en faisant réagir un composé aromatique tel que le toluène et/ou le benzène avec un ou des réactifs d'un gaz de synthèse de combustible tel qu'une combinaison d'hydrogène et de monoxyde de carbone et/ou de dioxyde de carbone et/ou de méthanol ou d'agents de méthylation obtenus à partir de ceux-ci. La combinaison de la technologie de méthylation sélective et d'une source de gaz de synthèse de combustible confère plusieurs avantages tels que la simplification du processus de méthylation sélective et l'utilisation de charges de faible coût. Le gaz de synthèse de combustible est utilisé sur une base sans retraitement.
