NH2 radical-generating compounds, independent of the gas generant composition, reduce the toxicity of effluent gases produced by combustion of nonazide gas generating compositions used to inflate vehicle occupant restraint systems. By selective reactive of the NH2 radical with NO in the combustion gas, N2 is formed thereby decreasing the concentration of toxic nitrogen oxides therein. Placement of the reducing compounds proximate to the gas generant bed ensures intimate contact with the combustion gases, and yet still provides a noninvasive method of toxic gas reduction.
Les composants produisant des radicaux NH¿2? indépendants de la composition génératrice de gaz, réduisent la toxicité des effluents gazeux produits par la combustion de compositions produisant des gaz non azide et servant à gonfler les système de retenue des occupants de véhicules. Par la mise en réaction sélective du radical NH¿2? avec le NO dans le gaz de combustion, il se forme du N¿2?, ce qui y réduit la concentration d'oxydes d'azote toxiques. En disposant les composés réducteurs à proximité du lit générateur de gaz, on assure un contact intime avec les gaz de combustion tout en permettant la mise en oeuvre d'un processus non invasif de réduction de gaz toxiques.
