The present invention relates to a process for the oligomerization of an olefin in the presence of a selectivity enhancing alcohol modifier wherein the modifier is formed by the reaction of olefin and water in a first reaction, and the thus formed modifier substantially free of water is separated and passed to a second reaction wherein olefin is oligomerized in the presence of the said modifier.

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant l~oligomérisation d~une oléfine en présence d~un modificateur à l~alcool à amélioration sélective, le modificateur étant obtenu par la réaction d~oléfine et d~eau dans une première réaction et le modificateur ainsi obtenu, essentiellement anhydre, étant séparé puis soumis à une seconde réaction, dans laquelle l~oléfine est oligomérisée en présence dudit modificateur.
