A selectively aspirating stylet assembly comprises a stylet having proximal and distal ends, the proximal end in fluid communication with a fluid supply and the distal end disposed at or near the end of a catheter, cannula or other generally tubular member that is to be inserted to a specified location within a patient's body, so as to create a fluid flow path from the fluid supply through the generally tubular member to the specified location. A valve assembly located within the fluid flow path is operable to close off a fluid column within the stylet assembly to facilitate placement of the tubular member within the body, and to control the flow of fluids within the assembly. Insertion of the tubular member into the body is accomplished by placing a portion of the stylet within the tubular member, closing the valve assembly to create a closed fluid column; inserting the style/tubular member assembly into the body; and then, during the withdrawal of the stylet, opening or closing the valve assembly as necessary to control the flow of fluid within the style/tubular member assembly to avoid substantial aspiration of body fluid and tissue.
La présente invention concerne un stylet à aspiration sélective avec une extrémité proximale et une extrémité distale, l'extrémité proximale étant en communication fluide avec un dispositif d'amenée de fluide, et l'extrémité distale étant située près de la pointe ou à la pointe du cathéter, de la canule ou de l'élément généralement tubulaire à insérer dans un endroit donné du corps du patient, de manière à créer un trajet d'écoulement du fluide depuis le dispositif d'amenée du fluide à travers l'élément généralement tubulaire jusqu'à un endroit précis. Un bloc valve situé à l'intérieur du trajet d'écoulement du fluide peut être actionné pour stopper la colonne de fluide dans le stylet, faciliter le placement de l'élément tubulaire à l'intérieur du corps et réguler le débit de fluide dans l'appareil. L'insertion de l'élément tubulaire dans le corps se fait en plaçant une partie du stylet dans l'élément tubulaire; en fermant le bloc valve pour créer une colonne de fluide fermée, en insérant l'ensemble stylet/élément tubulaire dans le corps, et ensuite, pendant le retrait du stylet, en ouvrant et en fermant le bloc valve de manière à réguler selon les besoins le débit du fluide à l'intérieur de l'ensemble stylet/élément tubulaire pour éviter une aspiration sensible de fluides et de tissus corporels.
