The deglycosylation is achieved by generating recombinant HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins which have primary amino acid sequence mutations in the N-linked glycosylation consensus sequences. Also disclosed are vaccines and antibodies to the mutant recombinant HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins.
