A self-adjusting ladder leveling device includes a first locking member attached to the ladder, and a second locking member movably associated with the first locking member. First and second legs extend outwardly from the second locking mem-ber toward a supporting surface. The second locking member sl-idably moves in relation to the first locking member as either the first or second leg is engaged with the surface. When both the first and second legs are engaged with the surface, the second locking member is moved into locked engagement with the first locking member, so as to maintain the ladder in a level state. When the first and/or second leg is removed from engagement with the sup-porting surface, the second locking member is released and is free to move with respect to the first locking member again.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de mise à niveau d'échelle à réglage automatique incluant un premier élément de blocage attaché à l'échelle, et un second élément de blocage associé de manière mobile au premier élément de blocage. Des première et seconde jambes s'étendent vers l'extérieur à partir du second élément de blocage jusqu'à une surface de support. Le second élément de blocage bouge de manière coulissante par rapport au premier élément de blocage lorsque la première ou la seconde jambe est en prise avec la surface. Lorsque à la fois la première et la seconde jambe sont en prise avec la surface, le second élément de blocage est déplacé pour la mise en prise de blocage avec le premier élément de blocage, de manière à maintenir l'échelle dans un état à niveau. Lorsque la première et/ou la seconde jambe est/sont libérée(s) de leur engrènement avec la surface de support, le second élément de blocage est libéré et libre de se mouvoir de nouveau par rapport au premier élément de blocage.
