This invention is a self-adjusting motor mount (30) for holding a driving gear (28) mounted on the shaft (36) of a motor (10) in engagement with a driven gear (26) carried by a back plate (18) disposed in a vertical plane and is particularly useful in a pen plotter. There is a mounting plate (12') carrying the motor (10) and the driving gear (28). A pivotal mounting carried by the back plate (18) attaches the mounting plate (12') to the back plate (18) at a point above the motor (10) for pivotal movement so as to have the motor (10) pivotally hang from the point. There is a bias spring (12) for resiliently urging the mounting plate (12') to carry the driving gear (28) into engagement with the driven gear (26). Finally, there is a shock absorber (34) carried by the back plate (18) for absorbing pivotal gear disengaging movement of the mounting plate (12').
