An adjustable locking plier-type tool (10) has a first handle (12) provided with a fixed jaw (20), a movable jaw (34) pivotally connected to the first handle (12), a second handle (14) pivotally connected to the movable jaw (34), and a toggle linkage system (16) cooperatively connected between the two handles (12, 14). The linkage system (16) includes a toggle link (42) connected to one or a pair of wedges (48, 50) disposed in the first handle (12) and coacts through a shoulder thereon with the second wedge. The two wedges (48, 50) are magnetically attracted into close contact with a floater plate (52) separating the wedges (48, 50) with a force sufficient to prevent formation of oil films between their mating surfaces.
