ABSTRACT An easily alignable coupler for optical fibres is provided by connecting two fibre ends at or near the focal point of a paraboloid of revolution and the front faces of the paraboloids are placed on top of each other. When two optical fibres are connected to the same paraboloid a self-collimating element is obtained which enables the radiation exiting from one fibre to be fed to another. By introducing further optical elements such as beam splitters or interference filters between the two front faces, a plurality of optical components for fibre transmission systems can be obtained.
