A SELF ALIGNING TRAILER HITCH ABSTRACT A self aligning trailer hitch for use when a towing vehicle is to pull a trailer, automatically guides a multiple piece assembly of a socket positioned by a hitch head body in turn secured to the towing vehicle, into full engagement, with a ball secured to the trailer. This engaged ball is the bottom ball of a vertical dual ball assembly, having a top ball for insertion into a conventional socket assembly on the tongue of a trailer. The self aligning multiple piece assembly of the socket is secured via a hitch head body, on the hitching bar of the towing vehicle. This socket assembly includes: a three dimensional, non bindable, guiding ramp to guide the bottom engagable ball; a rotatable ball receiving claw rotated downwardly to receive the bottom engagable ball; a ball receiving complementary hold down seat to position the incoming bottom engagable ball; a locking abutment to keep the rotatable ball receiving claw, after it rotates upwardly, to partially surround the bottom engagable ball in the load pulling position; and a locking pin to keep the locking abutment in the load pulling position. Moreover, if a load equalizing assembly is needed, the locking abutment is arranged to include a pivoting link subassembly, in turn secured to a wishbone equalizing bar subassembly, in turn adjustably secured to the tongue of the trailer.
