ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A work support for use primarily with machine tools is provided by a double-acting, automatic, self- centering holding device including a set of three holding rollers which synchronously and equally move radially toward and away from a workpiece holding position to faci- litate the concentric positioning of workpieces of various diameter. The simultaneous radial or centripetal displace- ment of the holding rollers is accomplished by means of a pair of double-acting symmetrical slots cut one in each of a pair of lever arms which in turn support one of the hold- ing rollers. The synchronization of the symmetrical move- ments of the lever arms is obtained by the interaction of the slots on each lever arm with guide rollers commonly mounted on a cross arm mixed to an axially displaceable central control shaft. The third holding roller is mounted on the end of the central control shaft directed toward the holding position of the workpiece. The device is adapted to clamp a workpiece in a conventional fashion from the exterior of the workpiece and in addition to clamp a workpiece from the interior by means of forcing the rollers into engagement with the inner peripheral surface of an aperture in an end of the workpiece.
