A self-checkout kiosk enables a patron to purchase product displayed in a vendin area and carrying a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag. The customer exits the vending area through a security portal. The kiosk, a bill acceptor, and a computer monitor, either adjacent the portal or separated therefrom, enables the patron to complete a purchase transaction prior to exiting the vending area through the portal. The portal includes RFID reading antennas for detecting product being transferred through the portal. A security system responds to transfer of product through the portal without a patron completing a purchase transaction using the self-checkout station. The security system itself is also usable in conventional retail environments when an attendant is present.

Cette invention concerne un kiosque libre service permettant à un patron d'acheter un produit diffusé dans une zone de vente et portant une étiquette d'identification par radiofréquence (RFID). Selon le mode de réalisation décrit dans cette invention, le client sort de la zone de vente par l'intermédiaire d'un portail de sécurité. Le kiosque, constitué d'un distributeur automatique acceptant les billets et d'un écran d'ordinateur, soit adjacent au portail, soit séparé de ce dernier, permet au patron de procéder à une transaction d'achat avant de sortir de la zone de vente par l'intermédiaire du portail. Le portail comprend des antennes de lecture RFID conçues pour détecter le produit transféré à travers le portail. Un système de sécurité intervient pour transférer le produit à travers le portail sans qu'un patron ait achevé une transaction d'achat au moyen de la station libre-service. Le système de sécurité lui-même peut également être utilisé dans des environnements de commerce classiques en présence d'une personne.
