An air filter and dust collector assembly includes one or more filter elements with an air pervious filter media for collecting particulate material or filter cake on the filter surface. An elongated flexible hose having a free distal end is suspended within the clean air space of the filter element and is fitted for coupling attachment to a source of pressurized air. The filter cleaning hose member preferably has elongated circumferentially spaced slit-like apertures for discharging pressurized air whereby the reaction force of air discharging through the slit-like apertures causes the hose to flail about and impact the filter element. The combined action of the reverse jet airflow and the impact forces exerted on the filter element by the random flailing of the hose member provides effective removal of dust and particulates from the filter media. A manual or automatically controlled valve is operated periodically to discharge pressurized air through the flexible hose.
