A self-cleaning filter is provided herein which includes a filter housing having at least a raw-liquid inlet and one clean-liquid outlet. A filter medium is interposed between the raw-liquid inlet and the clean-liquid outlet . A first pressure producer is provided for producing a pressure which is higher than the pressure prevailing in the filter housing. A second pressure producer is provided for producing a pressure which is lower than the pressure prevailing in the filter housing. At least one nozzle is located in proximity to the filter medium. Connectors are provided for selectively connecting the nozzle to the first and second pressure producers. A structure is provided to produce relative movement between the filter medium and the nozzle to the effect of having a substantial part of the surface area of the filter medium covered by the nozzle.
