Abstract A self-cleaning whirlpool system comprises a circulation pump (4) which is connected to an intake pipe (4) with associated filter (3), and to a hydraulic circuit (7) with associated whirlpool nozzles (8), with which are associated pipes (9) for mixing ambient air with the water directed to the nozzles. The pass-through sections of the nozzles (8) and the filter (3) are interrupted by valve means (80, 30) capable of isolating the system from the basin of the bathtub (1), after which the said system is filled with water mixed with detergent, which is then caused to circulate in a closed circuit by the pump (5). At the end of this cleaning or washing phase, the water, mixed with detergent and dirt, is drained directly into the bathtub's siphon. The said cleaning phase can be followed by a phase during which the system is rinsed, followed by drainage into the siphon. After cleaning (and rinsing if applicable), the system is reconnected to the basin of the bathtub (1).
