A self-closing cap for the fuel filler neck (91) of a vehicle is provided which is particularly adapted for use with an automatic gas filling machine. The cap comprises a closure ring (3) having an annular body and screw threads or bayonet lugs for detachably mounting the periphery of the annular body around the open end of the filler neck, and a closure flap assembly (5) formed from a circular member with a nozzle receiving opening, a closure flap spring biased over the opening, and a pivotal mounting (53) connecting the flap over the opening. The closure flap assembly (5) includes a locking ratchet mechanism for securing the circular member over the closure ring in a selected angular position such that the pivotal mounting is substantially 180~ opposite from the pivotal connection (95) of the restrictive flap (93) within a filler neck (94) of a vehicle to allow a fuel nozzle (100) from an automate gas filling machine to be smoothly inserted into and withdrawn from the self- closing cap. The cap has a cover that snap-fits over the closure flap assembly. The top wall of the cover serves as an inclined guide face for guiding the nozzle of an automatic gas filling machine into the opening of the closure flap assembly.
On décrit un bouchon à fermeture automatique pour le goulot d'un réservoir d'essence (91) d'une voiture qui est particulièrement adapté à une pompe d'essence automatique. Le bouchon comprend une bague de fermeture (3) qui comporte un corps annulaire et des filetages de vis ou des pattes bayonnette pour monter de manière détachable la périphérie du corps annulaire autour de l'extrémité ouverte du goulot de remplissage et un ensemble clapet de fermeture (5) formé d'un élément circulaire comportant une ouverture d'entrée du pistolet, un clapet de fermeture sollicité par ressort sur l'ouverture et un montage pivotant (53) connectant le clapet sur l'ouverture. L'ensemble clapet de fermeture (5) comprend un mécanisme de verrouillage à cliquet qui sert à fixer l'élément circulaire sur la bague de fermeture dans une position angulaire sélectionnée telle que le montage pivotant soit sensiblement distant de 180· par rapport à la connexion pivotante (95) du clapet de restriction (93) à l'intérieur d'un goulot de réservoir (94) de véhicule pour assurer l'entrée et la sortie sans à-coups d'un pistolet de pompe (100) à essence automatique respectivement dans le bouchon à fermeture automatique et hors de ce dernier. Le bouchon comprend un surbouchon qui s'enclenche sur l'ensemble clapet de fermeture. La surface supérieure du surbouchon sert de face de guidage inclinée pour guider le pistolet d'une pompe d'essence automatique dans l'ouverture de l'ensemble clapet de fermeture.
