ABSTRACT An extruded strip of resilient gasket material forms an annular gasket of the type designed for enclosure in a coupling housing in coupling of groove end pipe. The strip has a cross section which comprises: two base portions, two side portions, two compression pads, two resilient arms connected one to each of the respective base portions and extending there- between, a tongue portion and two lip portions. The side portions extend downward from the base portions and the compressive pads extend upward from the base portions. The tongue portion extends between the base portions below the resilient arms and has a curved shape such that its middle portion is lower than its end portions. Each lip portion extends inward from a respective one of said side portions. The top face of the tongue portion and the bottom faces of the resilient arms define a compensation well. The bottom face of the tongue portion, the top face of each lip portion and the inside face of the respective side portion respectively defining two cavities. The lip's bottom faces have a smooth texture for efficient sealing against a pipe's external surface. The tongue's bottom face has a smooth texture for efficient sealing against a pipe's external surface, and the tongue portion has a substantial degree of flexibility.
