There is disclosed an articulating cartridge assembly for a surgical apparatus comprising: a) a mounting portion adapted to be mounted in the apparatus; b) a housing portion moveably connected to a proximal end portion of the mounting portion; c) a cartridge disposed in the housing portion for holding a plurality of surgical fasteners slidably disposed therein in abutment with a plurality of corresponding pusher elements, the cartridge defining at least one longitudinal slot; and d) a cam bar adapter disposed in the mounting portion for retaining at least one cam bar, the at least one cam bar adapted for translation through the at least one longitudinal slot to engage the pusher elements so as to eject the surgical fasteners from the cartridge.
