A system, method and software program is provided for creating and implementing self-contained mini-applications that store, retrieve and display data and allow user interaction in a constrained computing environment such as a set-top box used in the delivery of digital television. The system, method and software program of the present invention, also known as "T V widgets" allows users to personalize data and facilitate the access of such data with a click of a button from a remote control unit. The TV widgets include a myriad of widgets of which some are, "My 8 ball", a widget that recommends television programming to a viewer, "My TV search" for searching specific television programs, "My Weather", "My Yellow Page s", "S mart Navigation", "Instant Messaging with Smart User Interface", as well as others. A TV widget framework provides user interface context for launching and managing the widgets, in addition, it maintains a library code that implements the TV widget components. Among the implementations of the TV widgets is a widget based TV navigator created as a collection of widgets from conventional grid guides and navigators that include a grid guide widget, a "what's on now" widget (sorted by channel), a movie recommendation widget among others.
L'invention concerne un système, un procédé et un programme logiciel permettant de créer et d'appliquer des mini-applications autonomes qui enregistrent, récupèrent et affichent des données et permettent une interaction utilisateur dans un environnement informatique restreint tel qu'un boîtier de décodage utilisé pour la télévision numérique. Le système, le procédé et le programme logiciel de la présente invention, également connus comme "gagdets télé" permettent aux utilisateurs de personnaliser les données et de faciliter l'accès à ces données en cliquant un bouton d'une unité de commande distante. Les gagdets télé contiennent une myriade de gagdets, notamment Ma balle 8 "My 8 ball", un gadget qui recommande la programmation de la télévision à un spectateur ; Ma recherche télé <= My TV search" qui permet de rechercher des programmes de télévision spécifiques, Ma prévision météo "My Weather", Mes pages jaunes "My Yellow Page s", Navigation intelligente "Smart Navigation", Messagerie instantanée avec une interface utilisateur intelligente "Instant Messaging with Smart User Interface". Un cadre gadget télé donne un contexte interface utilisateur permettant de lancer et de gérer les gadgets, sans compter qu'il actualise un code bibliothèque qui applique les composants gadgets télé. Parmi les applications des gadgets télé, on compte notamment un gadget basé sur un navigateur télé créé comme une collection de gadgets de guides grilles classiques et de navigateurs comportant un gadget guide grille, un gadget événements actuels "what's on now" (trié par le canal) et un gadget conseil de cinéma.
