A self-cooling can (10) comprising an evaporator unit (30) within the can (10) and an absorber unit (20) provided outside the container body (10). A beverage within the can (10) is cooled by means of vapour which passes from the evaporator (30) to the absorber (20) when these are connected so as to provide a vapour path between the two. The path for water vapour, for example, to pass from the evaporator (30) to the absorber (20) is formed by rupturing a panel (40) between evaporator (30) and the absorber (20) when the can (10) and part or all of the absorber (20) are rotated relative to each other.
