A self-cooling, portable liquid container is disclosed in the form of a bottle with an indent on any surface, preferably the bottom, into which a cooling mechanism can be inserted. The cooling mechanism consists of an encapsulated area containing two or more reactants separated by a non-permeable membrane, and one or more appendages which will serve to puncture the non-permeable membrane, allowing the reactants to mix and the endothermic reaction to occur. The reactant capsule is sealed at one end by a flexible material (A) that surrounds the joint of the capsule. Another flexible material (B) joins flexible material (A) and provides additional pressure such that the non- permeable membrane can be pushed up to the appendages for puncture. Flexible material (B) also provides friction to hold the cooling mechanism in the indent in the container. A moldable material provides the base upon which the cooling mechanism rests and may be turned and pushed up to rupture the non-permeable membrane, resulting in mixing of the reactants.
