There is disclosed an ink jet printhead which comprises a plurality of nozzles (3) and one or more heater elements (10) corresponding to each nozzle. Each heater element is configured to heat a bubble forming liquid in the printhead to a temperature above its boiling point to form a gas bubble (12) therein. The generation of the bubble causes the ejection of a drop (16) of an ejectable liquid (such as ink) through the respective corresponding nozzle, to effect printing. Each heater element is configured such that the energy applied to it to heat the bubble forming liquid to cause the ejection of a drop is less than that required to heat a volume of the ejectable liquid equal to the volume of such a drop, from an ambient temperature (being the temperature at which the bubble forming liquid enters the printhead) to the temperature of such a drop when it is ejected. The printhead thus has a self- cooling function.

L'invention concerne une tête d'impression pour jet d'encre, qui comprend une pluralité de buses (3) et un ou plusieurs éléments chauffants (10) correspondant à chaque buse. Chaque élément chauffant est conçu pour chauffer un liquide formant des bulles, dans la tête d'impression, à une température supérieure au point d'ébullition de celui-ci afin de former une bulle de gaz (12). La production de la bulle provoque l'éjection d'une goutte (16) d'un liquide éjectable (tel que de l'encre) par la buse correspondante respective, de manière à produire l'impression. Chaque élément chauffant est conçu de sorte que l'énergie qui lui appliquée pour chauffer le liquide formant des bulles et provoquer l'éjection d'une goutte, est inférieure à celle requise pour chauffer un volume du liquide éjectable égal au volume d'une telle goutte, d'une température ambiante (soit la température à laquelle ledit liquide pénètre dans la tête d'impression) à la température de la goutte au moment de son éjection. Cette tête d'impression comporte également une fonction d'autorefroidissement.
