A secondary seal gasket (65) is formed of a graphite material for higher temperature applications. The gasket is formed by multiple wraps of a graphite ribbon and then is shaped in a mold to provide a U shaped cross-sectional configuration having a self-energizing spring (71) disposed therein. The gasket is formed from an L shaped ribbon wrap (130) having additional ribbon overwraps (152) thereon to define a gasket ring which is then molded in a die press (160) to form the U shape. The L shaped ribbon wrap thereby extends axially and then radially outwardly to define an end wall (133) (136) of the gasket to impede migration of fluid between the axial ribbon wraps (152).

Selon l'invention, une garniture d'étanchéité secondaire (65) est constituée d'un matériau de graphite en vue d'une utilisation dans des applications à très haute température. Cette garniture comprend plusieurs enveloppes d'un ruban de graphite et est formée dans un moule permettant d'obtenir une configuration de section transversale en forme de U dans laquelle un ressort d'auto-activation (71) est disposé. Ladite garniture est formée à partir d'une enveloppe de ruban en forme de L (130) sur laquelle se trouvent des enveloppes de ruban supplémentaires (152) définissant un anneau de garniture, lequel est ensuite moulé dans une presse à matricer (160), ce qui permet d'obtenir la forme en U. Par conséquent, l'enveloppe de ruban en forme de L s'étend axialement puis radialement vers l'extérieur de sorte à définir une paroi d'extrémité (133, 136) de la garniture, ce qui empêche la migration du fluide entre les enveloppes de ruban axiales (152).
