A post assembly for supporting a fence, a sign or receptacle such as a mailbox. The post assembly comprises a ground penetrating rod having an enlarged head, a square, hollow, decorative body placed over the rod after the rod is forced into the ground, and a footplate. The enlarged head of the rod cooperates in close fit within the hollow body. A pin frictionally fits into openings formed in the body, interfering with the rod as the body is lowered over the rod. The body is then employed as a driver to force the rod into the ground. When the rod is driven down to the point that the body contacts the footplate, the pin is removed from the body. The body then is lowered into abutment with the footplate. The openings of the body which receive the pin then align with a passage formed in the enlarged head of the rod. The pin is reinserted into the body, this time passing through the passage of the enlarged head of the rod. The rod and body are thus interlocked. The footplate has prongs for engaging the ground, and a hole through which the rod passes and in which the rod is maintained upright. The rod and the prongs of the tootplate combine to secure the assembled post within the ground.
L'invention concerne un ensemble poteau (10) destiné à soutenir une clôture, une enseigne, ou un réceptacle (tel qu'une boîte aux lettres). L'ensemble poteau comprend une tige qu'on fiche dans le sol (12) munie d'une tête élargie (22), un corps carré, creux, décoratif (14) qui habille le poteau enfoncé dans le sol, et une plaque de fixation (16). La tête élargie (22) de la tige s'ajuste fermement à l'intérieur du corps creux (14). Une broche (18) s'insère par frottement dans des orifices (20) formés dans le corps et vient au contact de la tige lorsque le corps est abaissé pour habiller la tige. Le corps est ensuite utilisé comme une masse pour enfoncer la tige dans les sol. Une fois la tige enfoncée au point où le corps arrive au contact de la plaque de fixation (16), la broche est retirée du corps. Le corps est ensuite abaissé de manière à abouter la plaque de fixation. Les orifices (20) du corps qui reçoivent la broche s'alignent alors sur un passage formé dans la tête élargie de la tige. La broche est réinsérée dans le corps et passe cette fois-ci à travers le passage de la tête élargie. La tige et le corps sont ainsi interverrouillés. La plaque de fixation comprend des fourchons (44) qui pénètrent dans les sol, et un trou (42) dans lequel la tige pénètre et se maintient en position verticale. La tige et les fourchons coopèrent pour arrimer le poteau assemblé dans le sol.
