A system provides self locking stakes for a load carrying vehicle which includes a load carrying surface on the vehicle with an opening therein for receiving a stake. Each elongated stake has an upper end for retaining a load on the vehicle and a lower end adapted to be received in the opening. A notch on a side of the lower end of the stake has a height at least equal to the thickness of the load carrying surface. A spring carried on either the surface or the stake provides a biasing force urging the stake toward the side provided with the notch, so that the notch engages an edge of the opening thereby securing the stake on the vehicle. Preferably the spring is in the form of an elongated wire spring attached to the stake so that the stake can be removed by manually pushing the stake against the bias of the spring and then extracting the stake.

Cette invention concerne un système de verrouillage automatique des ranchers d'un véhicule utilitaire dont la plate-forme comporte des ouvertures où loger lesdits ranchers. Chacun des ranchers comprend une section supérieure servant à retenir le chargement sur la plate-forme du véhicule et une section inférieure adaptée pour se loger dans les ouvertures susmentionnées. La section inférieure du ranchers comporte sur un côté une encoche dont la hauteur est au moins égale à l'épaisseur de la plate-forme du véhicule. Un ressort monté soit sur la plate-forme soit sur le rancher pousse celui-ci vers le côté où est située ladite encoche, forçant celle-ci à s'emboîter sur la plate-forme et s'y verrouiller. De préférence, le ressort se présente sous la forme d'un ressort à boudin fixé au rancher de manière que celui-ci puisse être dégagé en le poussant contre la force élastique du ressort.
