A sap spout comprises a slender body having a sharp end adapted to be driven the directly into the wood fibers of a tree. A series of circumferentially distributed grooves are defined at the periphery of the slender body and extend from a location spaced from the sharp end for collecting sap from the tree. An internal passage is defined in the slender body. The internal passage is in flow communication with the grooves and has an outlet adapted to be connected to a sap collection system.
