ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Self Pumping Seal for a Reciprocating Member A self pumping seal for a reciprocating member provides cooling fluid to the reciprocating member with degradation of an elastomeric seal lessened by separating the elastomeric seal from the higher temperatures of the machinery. Separation is provided by a relatively heat insensitive rigid seal which forms with the elastomeric seal a variable volume chamber. A source of cooling fluid is in communication with the variable volume chamber so that as the volume of the chamber varies the cooling fluid will be pumped therethrough.
