SELF-REINFORCING SILOXANE ELASTOMERS Abstract A process for the copolymerization of hexamethyl- cyclotrisiloxane and hexaphenylcyclotrisiloxane in an ordered manner reacts the desired ratios of the siloxanes in the presence of a lithium containing catalyst and a solvent at a temperature which controls the polymerization pattern. When the polymerization temperature is below 100°C., the polymerization of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane is favored. When the polymerization temperature is above 100°C., the polymerization of hexaphenylcyclotrisiloxane is favored. By selection of the silanes used, their ratios and the polymerization temperature, copolymers in the desired sequence of dimethylsiloxy units and diphenylsiloxy units can be formed.
