ABSTRACT There is disclosed a self-retracting and self-locking portable document storage system. The system includes a top protective sheet and a bottom protective sheet which may be releasibly connected together. The sheets comprise a material resistant to aging and light damage. The system permits the document or documents stored between the sheets to be positioned therein without any damage to the document. This is achieved, in one embodiment, by employing hook and loop material which also provides an adhesive. The system includes a hollow tubular structure within which the top and bottom sheets and any document(s) may be contained. A spring roller arrangement is provided to assist in extension and retraction of a document positioned between the sheets. The use of the hook and loop material has been found effective since this system does not impede the extension and retraction and thus does not damage the document in any manner.
