A latch mechanical (34) for latching a convertible top header (24) to a vehicle windshield header (18) comprises a latch hook receiver (124) mounted adjacent to each end of the windshield header (18) and a pair of movable latch members (104) each having a free end mounting a hook (108). A mounting bracket (76) located adjacent to each end of the top header (24) has an elongated base slot (96, 98) and an intersecting curvilinear branch slot (100, 102) adjacent to its outer end. A guide pin (120) and a spaced drive pin (114), carried by each latch member (104), are received within the respective slots (96, 98) and (100, 102) in the unlatched position. A drive link (66), electrically driven or hand-operated, is connected to each latch member drive pin (114). Operation of the drive link (66) pivots the latch members (104) about the guide pins (120) until the drive pins (114) enter the base slots (96, 98) and terminally slide both pins (114, 120) toward the inner ends of the base slots (96, 98) to move the latch members (104) from unlatched to latched positions. This moves each hook through a compound curvilinear path (X, Y) between an unlatched position stored within the top header (24), and a latched position, extending from the top header (24).
La présente invention a pour objet un mécanisme (34) servant à verrouiller une membrure (24) de toit décapotable à la traverse supérieure (18) d'un pare-brise; le mécanisme en question comporte un axe de verrouillage (124) monté au voisinage immédiat de chacune des extrémités de la traverse supérieure (18) du pare-brise, ainsi qu'une paire d'organes de verrouillage (104), chacun doté d'une extrémité libre venant en prise avec un crochet (108). Un support de montage (76) positionné au voisinage immédiat de chacune des extrémités de la membrure (24) du toit décapotable comporte, à sa base, une fente allongée (96 et 98) venant en intersection avec une fente curviligne (100 et 102) adjacente à son extrémité extérieure. Un axe de guidage (120) avec ergot d'entraînement (114), montés sur chacun des organes de verrouillage (104) viennent s'insérer à l'intérieur de chacune des fentes respectives (96 et 98, 100 et 102) lorsqu'en position de déverrouillage. Une biellette (66), à commande manuelle ou électrique, est reliée à chacun des ergots d'entraînement (114). Le fonctionnement de la biellette (66) entraîne le pivotement des organes de verrouillage (104) autour des axes de guidage (120) jusqu'à ce que les ergots d'entraînement (114) pénètrent à l'intérieur des fentes (96 et 98) pour faire coulisser les organes de verrouillage (104) depuis une position de déverrouillage vers une position de verrouillage. Ce mouvement a pour effet d'imposer à chacun des crochets un déplacement curviligne (X et Y) entre une position de déverrouillage où il est remisé à l'intérieur de la membrure du toit (24) et une position de verrouillage extérieure à la membrure du toit (24).
