A filter composite comprising a first layer of glass fibers having random orientation, the layer being porous to gas flow therethrough; a porous mat of sufficient stiffness as to support the glass fiber layer during use as a filter, the mat consisting of compacted glass fibers; and an additional porous layer carried by the mat to block escape of glass fibers or particles from the filter composite during gas flow therethrough, the composite formed to have pleated or undulating configuration.

Composite filtrant comprenant une première couche de fibres de verre à orientation aléatoire, la couche étant perméable à l'écoulement de gaz; une matrice poreuse de rigidité suffisante pour supporter la couche de fibres de verre quand on l'utilise comme filtre, la matrice étant constituée de fibres de verre compactées; et une couche poreuse additionnelle portée par la matrice pour bloquer l'échappement de fibres de verres ou de particules du composite filtrant pendant qu'un écoulement de gaz le traverse, ledit composite ayant une configuration plissée ou ondulée.
