This invention relates to an improved process for detecting and quantifying a de- sired nucleic acid sequence. This process involves synthesizing single stranded RNA, single stranded DNA, double-stranded DNA followed by detection using an electrochemi- luminescent labeled binding species. The fig- ure illustrates an electrochemiluminescent la- beled nucleotide for polymerase incorporation in nucleic acid.
