A self threader (80) is disclosed for a wrapping machine (10) having a tube former (40) including tube former wall means (51, 52) terminating in a first tube former plate (61) and a second tube former plate (62). The tube former (40) is adapted to re- ceive a first edge (36A) of a wrapping sheet (36) between the first tube former plate (61) and the second tube former plate (62) and is adapted to receive a second edge (36B) of the wrapping sheet (36) above the second tube former plate (62) with the first and second edges (36A, 36B) overlapping for forming the wrapping sheet (36) into a tube to receive a product therein. The self thread- er (80) comprises a guide plate (81) located proximate to the second tube former plate (52) and extending beyond the first tube former plate (51) for directing the first edge (36B) of the wrapping sheet (36) between the first tube former plate (51) and the sec- ond tube former plate (52).
