A simple box sealer has no flap folding structure, that seals shut the flaps of a cardboard box already having the flaps folded to the closed position. The box sealer has a low friction conveyor and a pair of lateral conveyors located thereon to move the boxes through the box sealer. A floating head located above the conveyors has an inclined entry ramp with a first sensor that causes the floating head to move upwardly as long as any part of the box touches the entry ramp, thereby lifting the floating head to the correct height to allow the boxes to pass through the box sealer. A second sensor, which may be one and the same or different than the first sensor, causes the lateral conveyors to move inwardly to grip and move the boxes through the box sealer.
