Abstract The invention disclosed is an intumescent, water repellant, fire retardant coating composition for application to fabrics, comprising an aqueous dispersion of: a. a phosphoric acid-releasing catalyst; b. a carbonific; c. at least one blowing agent comprising a chlorinated paraffin; d. a water-repellant, fire resistant additive comprising a solution of a film-forming binder, a water repellant, and a fire resistant material, in an organic solvent, and e. an aqueous vehicle; the solids being substantially uniformly dispersed in the acqueous vehicle.
