SEMICONDUCTOR LASER WITH TRANSVERSE EMISSION, AND COUPLING THEREOF TO AN OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE ABSTRACT A semiconductor laser has, on the surface of layer adjacent the active layer, a grating with such a period as to reflect light in a direction transverse to the active layer; in this way light is emitted from a face parallel to the layer. The laser can be coupled to an optical waveguide realized in a substrate on which the laser can be fixed and which is provided with a grating capable of rotating the radiation emitted by the laser by the angle necessary for transferring the radiation into the waveguide.
