ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed here is a matrix operation device utilizing a charge- coupled device (CCD) This device performs matrix multiplication for an input electrical signal by making use of a CCD. The operation is carried out by utilizing a plurality of systems of the split electrode type convolution operation unit using a CCD. More specifically, the multiplication is carried out by means of a split electrode CCD. A signal to be processed is sampled by a resistor in the input side or by a delay circuit. The sampled signal enters the operation circuit in the form of a time series (sequence) consis- ting of the samples of said signal, and in the respective coefficient is multiplied to each sample. The method of splitting the electrode corresponds to each coefficient in the matrix. The samples multiplied by the coefficient are added in the output side and converted into the output signal, namely, a signal corresponding to the development of the matrix multiplication.
