A semiconductor package to which a potential difference is applied has two or more of the components thereof bound together using a filler metal. The filler metal is a solid solution structure in which the metallic components are atomically dispersed, and may comprise an alloy of gold, silver and copper. A preferred form of the filler metal comprises 60Au20Ag20Cu. Such filler metals in accordance with the invention provide the advantages of silver-based filler metals without the silver migration that leads to eventual shorting of the semiconductor package. When water condenses to form a continuous layer thereof within the semiconductor package due to moisture seeping into the package and temperature changes, the silver within the filler metal does not ionize, and therefore a buildup of silver deposits and eventual shorting of the package does not occur.
Un boîtier à semi-conducteurs auquel une différence de potentiel est appliquée comporte au moins deux de ses constituants qui sont reliés ensemble au moyen d'un métal d'apport. Le métal d'apport est une structure à solution solide dans laquelle les constituants métalliques sont dispersés au niveau atomique et peut comprendre un alliage d'or, d'argent et de cuivre. Une forme préférée pour le métal d'apport comprend 60Au20Ag20Cu. Les métaux d'apport selon l'invention possèdent les avantages des métaux d'apport à base d'argent mais sans les inconvénients liés à la migration de l'argent qui peut éventuellement mener au court-circuitage du boîtier à semi-conducteurs. Lorsque l'eau se condense pour former une couche continue d'eau condensée dans le boîtier à semi-conducteurs en raison de l'infiltration de l'humidité dans le boîtier et des variations de la température, l'argent situé dans le métal d'apport ne subit pas d'ionisation et par conséquent l'accumulation de dépôts d'argent et le court-circuitage éventuel du boîtier ne se produisent pas.
